Why I do what I do

If you’re here, you’re probably looking for the right person to support your child. That’s a big decision, and I know how important it is to find someone your child feels comfortable with, and someone you feel you can trust.

I’m Charlotte Allen, the children’s cognitive behavioural hypnotherapist behind Mind Matters Therapy UK. Based in East Devon, I provide child therapy for children and young people experiencing anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, low confidence, school avoidance, phobias and other emotional wellbeing challenges.

I Tailor the therapy to the child

I’ve seen the difference early support can make, and I don’t think children should have to reach crisis point before they get the help they need. That’s one of the reasons I chose this career.

Every child is different, which is why I don’t expect children to fit the therapy. I tailor the therapy to the child, taking time to understand who they are, what’s getting in their way and what will help them move forward.

Before retraining, I spent 16 years working as a police officer. During that time, I spent four years working in serious sexual offences, supporting vulnerable adults and children. It gave me a strong understanding of safeguarding and valuable experience in building trust with people who found it difficult to talk.

Not every child walks into the therapy room ready to talk, and that’s absolutely okay. Some children chat from the moment they arrive, while others would rather draw, play a game or simply spend a little time getting to know me first. I work at your child’s pace, creating a relaxed environment where they feel safe, understood and comfortable enough to open up.

Qualifications & Memberships

I’m fully qualified in Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy, hold a Level 4 Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy, have completed additional specialist training in working with children and young people, and continue my professional development to ensure the support I provide reflects current knowledge and best practice.

I’m registered with the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR), fully insured and hold an Enhanced DBS certificate, giving parents peace of mind that their child is supported by a qualified and accountable professional.

teaching children the skills to cope so they can enjoy their childhood to the fullest

Whether we’re working on anxiety, confidence, emotional regulation, school avoidance or another challenge, my aim isn’t simply to help children feel better whilst they’re with me. It’s to help them develop the understanding, confidence and skills they can continue using long after therapy has finished.

If you’re wondering whether I’m the right person to support your child, I’d be happy to answer your questions during a no-obligation initial consultation.
